Veterans Affairs Office

Here at Central Carolina Community College, we understand the needs of service members, whether veterans or active duty. By working together, we work to make it possible for you to finish college. Our Veterans Affairs coordinator works with each service member to make sure they have what they need to maximize their VA educational benefits. The coordinator also works diligently to help foster a smooth educational journey for all service members here at CCCC.

FAQs
The Veterans Administration will make a determination of whether or not you qualify for Veterans benefits, including your monthly benefit amount, after you have submitted your application for VA benefits. For questions and inquiries regarding VA education benefits, students should call (888) 442-4551 or visit the VA Website.
You can apply for benefits by filling out VA form 22-1990 or 22-5490 (used for Dependent benefits). You may complete the online application process at Education Benefits Application Process. Save a copy of the application with the signature page for the CCCC Veteran Affairs office.
It is difficult to give a specific time when the first check may be received. The time varies, depending on the volume of work at the VA Regional Processing Office.
Many students are eligible to receive both. You are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility. Visit our Financial Aid Office for more details.
Contact the CCCC Business Office at (919) 718-7517 for details on our Military Tuition Refund policy and textbook buyback procedures.
Ongoing Requirements
Each semester you must complete the Veterans Enrollment Certification Request Form.

On a monthly basis, you must verify enrollment status to continue receiving monthly housing allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments. Chapter 33 students can verify their enrollment status in one of two ways:

- Telephone – Students may call the Education Call Center (ECC) at (888) 442-4551 to verify their enrollment status.
Please meet with your VR&E counselor and get approval prior to enrolling in classes.
On a monthly basis, you must verify enrollment monthly through W.A.V.E. (Web Automation Verification of Enrollment).
- A monthly stipend is sent to the student.
- The student is responsible for paying all accrued charges with the school.
- If a student is enrolled in less than 6 credit hours, the VA will only pay the amount of tuition and fees.

Steps to Get Started
- Go to VA.gov and apply for educational benefits to receive a Certificate of Eligibility. If you are a Veteran, you can provide a copy of your DD-214. If you are using VR&E benefits, your VR&E counselor will send an authorization on your behalf to the VA coordinator.
- Request High School Transcript and any prior college transcripts be sent to our admissions office. The original transcripts must be received by our admissions office prior to being certified with the VA.
- Complete the admissions application and residency determination (RDS) for Central Carolina Community College. After 24-48 hours, reach out to admissions to find out your next steps to get registered and enrolled in classes. If you are considered out-of-state with RDS, please reach out to the Student Records & Registrar’s Office to see if you are eligible to request a tuition waiver.
