Yes. Students are expected to meet the expectations set forth in the college's financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress policy for each semester in the program. Students must also re-submit their FAFSA and their CCCC Foundation scholarship application to qualify for the second year of funding.
Central Carolina Promise/K14 is a last-dollar scholarship program. If a student receives funding assistance from other sources (ex. Pell, grants, other scholarships, etc.), then those funds will first be used toward the student’s cost of attendance. If no other funding is received, or if the amount received does not fully cover the student’s in-state tuition and fees, then Promise/K14 funds will be applied to their account.
Promise/K14 pays for in-state tuition and required fees only. It does not cover books, supplies, program kits, and other required course materials (including Follett ACCESS). These costs may be covered through other funding sources (ex. Pell) but if they are not, the student will be responsible for paying them.
Promise/K14 funds may also be applied toward certain continuing education programs. Students must contact the college access coordinator to ask about using Promise/K14 funds for a continuing education class.
Funds are typically put onto student accounts a few weeks after all the student’s classes have started. If the student has a 12-week, 8-week, or other late-start class, the funds will be delayed until after all classes have begun. Students will be notified via Cougarmail once funds have been paid out, and they are encouraged to check their Self-Service account at that time to see if they have a balance for textbooks or other materials.
For qualified students, the Central Carolina Promise/K14 program will guarantee two years or five semesters toward a credential: associate degree, diploma, or certificate. For example, 2024 high school graduates are eligible during the following semesters: Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025, Fall 2025, Spring 2026. Students may join the program late, but will not be able to extend their eligibility past the original window.

No. Students are encouraged to select a course load that is a good fit for them. However, if you receive other types of funding in addition to Promise/K14, your award may differ if you are full-time or part-time. Students must take classes that are required for their declared program(s) of study. Classes not required for the student’s program(s) will not be funded.
Yes. Students generally must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in order to be eligible for the program. If a student is placed on probation or suspension (either academic or financial aid), they are subject to the college's relevant SAP Policies.
No. The only requirement is for a student to complete the FAFSA application and any additional verification as required by the Financial Aid Office. Students can view the status of their financial aid (and required documents) at any time via their Self-Service account. Students do not have to receive Pell, state grants, or other funds in order to receive Promise/K14 funding.
Yes, the Central Carolina Promise program will cover tuition and fees up to the in-state tuition rate. The student would be responsible for paying the difference in cost from in-state to out-of-state tuition. Residency status is determined by the Residency Determination Service, not by the college, and any questions regarding a student's residency status should be directed to (844) 319-3640 or rdsinfo@ncresidency.org. Certain military/veteran dependents can apply for an in-state tuition waiver. More information can be found on the page Student Records and Registrar Office webpage.
At this time, undocumented and DACA students are not eligible for the Promise/K14 program, but are strongly encouraged to apply for additional funding opportunities at CCCC. Students must be able to complete and submit a FAFSA in order to qualify for Promise/K14.
