The mission of the Central Carolina Scholars of Global Distinction program is to develop engaged global citizens who are prepared to be successful in our increasingly interdependent world. Central Carolina recognizes students earning the Scholar of Global Distinction award at graduation and on their official academic transcript.

As a Scholar of Global Distinction, you will gain:

  • An academic distinction that will enhance your ability to transfer to the university of your choice
  • A certificate of recognition from World View at UNC-Chapel Hill
  • An opportunity to wear the global scholars graduation regalia

A Scholar of Global Distinction develops these competencies:

  • Investigate the world beyond their immediate environment, framing significant problems and conducting well-crafted and age-appropriate research
  • Recognize perspectives, others’ and their own, articulating and explaining such perspectives thoughtfully and respectfully
  • Communicate ideas effectively with diverse audiences, bridging geographic, linguistic, ideological, and cultural barriers
  • Reflect critically on their role as a member of the global community and pursue ways to create positive change

Program Requirements

The Scholars of Global Distinction award is noted on the transcript of Central Carolina Community College graduates who:

  • Complete 15 credit hours in courses designated as having globally intensive content 
  • Attend 8 hours of international events, ideally at least two events per semester
  • Participate in 30 hours of global experience through travel abroad or a domestic intercultural experience
  • Complete a capstone project
