Frequently Asked Questions

According to the United States Department of Education, the term minority or minoritized means American Indian, Alaskan Native, Black (not of Hispanic origin), Hispanic (including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin), Pacific Islander, or other under-represented ethnic group.

The CCCC Brothers of Excellence mentoring program will engage with participants to provide access, knowledge, and opportunities that not only positively impact student outcomes, but also foster an environment of inclusion that increases awareness of the challenges facing minoritized males. The mentor-mentee relationship will create a safe place for the student to speak about the things that matter most to them.

Students are selected based on their need and desire to succeed at CCCC. Chosen mentees are interested in receiving additional support and guidance through a partnership with selected faculty, staff, and community members dedicated to supporting minoritized male student success. There is no GPA requirement to begin.

Mentors participating in this program will be staff, faculty, and community members dedicated to student success. The mentor is not necessarily a personal friend, but a guide to help you navigate success. The mentor and mentee will agree upon the desired form of communication and frequency. From there, your mentor will connect with you and support you according to your needs. This is a voluntary relationship that will need nurturing from both you and your mentor. You will meet other mentees along the way. Make sure to ask questions, learn a lot, and have fun.
