Dental Assisting Student Learning Outcomes(SLO) Related to Program Outcomes(PO)

  • SLO #1
    • By the completion of DEN 101, Preclinical Procedures, students will successfully complete clinical procedures involving general four-handed dentistry.
    • PO: Students successfully completing the Dental Assisting Program will be able to perform chair-side procedures of four-handed dentistry.
    • Criteria of success: Assessment & Competency: 90% of students will satisfactorily complete four-handed dentistry assessments and competencies with a passing score of 70% or better.
  • SLO #2
    • By the completion of DEN 101, Preclinical Procedures students will demonstrate the ability to sterilize and disinfect instruments.
    • PO: Students successfully completing the Dental Assisting Program will be able to sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment and prepare tray setups for dental procedures
    • Criteria for Success: Assessment/Competency: 100% of students will satisfactorily complete the assessment/competency with a passing score of 100% or better in each area.
  • SLO #3
    • By the completion of DEN 106, Clinical Practice I, students will successfully evaluate a patient on postoperative care, demonstrating competencies in the areas of patient instructions and counsel.
    • PO: Prepare in the Dental Assisting Program to deliver patient care a scientific basis and caring manner.
    • Criteria for Success: DEN 106 Clinical Evaluation Form #22: 90% of students will satisfactorily complete the Clinical Evaluation with a passing score of 70% or better in each area
  • SLO #4
    • Demonstrate the ability to apply dental sealants with appropriate moisture control.
    • PO: Prepare the dental assisting student to perform all aspects of dental assisting delegated functions under the direction and supervision of licensed dentists.
    • Criteria for Success: Dental Sealant Competency: 90% of students will achieve an average score of 70% or higher for each process evaluation for this skill.
  • SLO #5
    • Demonstrate the ability to produce radiographs on a live patient.
    • PO: Demonstrate graduates who possess the skills and knowledge to competently, legally and ethically plan, implement and evaluate dental assisting services.
    • Criteria for Success: Full mouth series competency: 100% of students will achieve an average score of 85% or higher with this competency.
  • SLO #6
    • By the completion of DEN 104, Dental Education, will provide oral hygiene instruction specific to the needs of the assessed population.
    • PO: Develop graduates who possess the skills and knowledge to competently, legally and ethically plan, implement and evaluate dental assisting services.
    • Criteria for Success: Completed Lesson Plan: 90% of students will achieve an average score of 70% or higher with each assignment.
