The Health Information Technology degree program at CCCC, accredited by CAHIIM, prepares students with vital skills in business, science, technology, and leadership that are essential for thriving in the health information industry. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students develop expertise across various HIM knowledge domains, enhancing their understanding and proficiency in the field. Upon completion, students may qualify to pursue the esteemed industry credential of Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), further validating their expertise and opening doors to career advancement.

Note: The program is offered online, but there are required day hours on-site during Professional Practice courses.
The Medical Billing and Coding diploma offers students an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge in health information as part of the AAS in HIT curriculum. The program provides a pathway into healthcare entry-level roles and for those who aren't ready to pursue a full associate degree (yet). The courses taken in the diploma program can be transferred to the AAS in HIT. However, it's important to note that students completing the diploma program are not eligible to obtain the RHIT credential. Note: The program is offered online, but there are required day hours on-site during Professional Practice courses.
The Healthcare Data Analytics certificate offers students an introduction to data analytics in healthcare, emphasizing its role in enhancing decision-making and patient outcomes. Throughout the program, students learn analytics techniques tailored to healthcare settings, including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and visualization. Graduates are equipped to contribute to improved healthcare delivery processes by effectively leveraging data insights.
The Electronic Health Records certificate program is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage electronic health record (EHR) systems in healthcare settings. This program provides a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on understanding, implementing, and maintaining EHR systems to improve patient care, streamline administrative processes, and ensure regulatory compliance. Throughout the program, students will learn about the fundamental principles of EHR systems, including data capture, storage, retrieval, and exchange. They will gain hands-on experience with simulated EHR software platforms and learn how to navigate and utilize these systems effectively.
The Patient Access Specialist certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in patient access within healthcare organizations. This program focuses on equipping students with foundational skills and knowledge essential for success in this field. Specifically, students will gain a solid understanding of medical terminology, health law and ethics, health insurance coverage, and billing processes. Through a combination of hands-on exercises, case studies, and simulations, students will develop proficiency in using electronic health record systems. Additionally, students will acquire knowledge of billing and reimbursement concepts commonly utilized in healthcare settings. This comprehensive approach ensures that graduates are well-prepared to excel in their roles and contribute effectively to patient access operations within healthcare organizations.

There is an increasing need for credentialed HIM professionals due to the rapid and ongoing advances in health information technology (HIT) and constantly evolving trends in healthcare delivery. Articulation Agreements
The Health Information Technology program is partnering with universities that offer bachelor degrees in Health Information Management. These partnerships provide our students with additional opportunities and pathways to further their education after obtaining their Associate in Applied Science in Health Information Technology at CCCC. These partnerships allow for HIT prefix courses to transfer to these selected institutions per the established agreement. In general, HIT courses do not transfer outside of these agreements as they are considered career and technical education (CTE) courses. Accreditation Information

The Health Information Management accreditor of Central Carolina Community College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College's accreditation for the Associate Degree in Health Information Technology has been reaffirmed through 2030.
