SANFORD - Nickolas Jorgenson is Central Carolina Community College's nominee for the Gov. Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award sponsored by the N.C. Association of Community College Presidents.

This award, named for the former North Carolina governor who also served as president of the N.C Community College System, is designed to highlight outstanding curriculum student leadership and service.

Jorgenson is a student in the CCCC Laser and Photonics Technology program. A member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, his CCCC experiences have included Student Ambassador, SPIE Student Chapter President, and recruiter for the Laser and Photonics Technology program. In addition, he received the Advanced Technological Education Student Award for Excellence from the National Science Foundation.

"Nickolas has gone above and beyond as a student leader at CCCC. His outstanding qualities make him a creditable and commendable candidate for this year's Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award," said CCCC President Dr. T. Eston Marchant.

Jorgenson says: "One of my goals while attending the Laser & Photonics Technology program was to give back to the school in whatever capacity I could because the faculty, staff, and administration at CCCC were genuinely interested in my success and treated me like family from the beginning. ...

"I am so grateful for my experience at Central Carolina Community College and I hope that my leadership contributions have made a positive impact on our community. I also hope that the message continues to spread about the high-quality education students receive at North Carolina Community Colleges."
