SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College has signed two athletes to its cross country program.
Guadalupe "Lupe" Vazquez, of Sanford, is a student at Lee County High School. "I had the honor of coaching Lupe in high school and I know the level of dedication she has in the classroom, to the sport, and, more importantly, to her team," said CCCC Head Cross Country Coach Jacob Ashworth. "Lupe is a great leader on and off the field. I am excited that I get to continue to coach her for another two years."
Britt Lehman, of Siler City, is a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School. "Britt is a dedicated runner with great potential. Britt is a four-time North Carolina High School Athletic Association State Qualifier in cross country and track and field," said Ashworth. "He has a personal best 5K time of 17:07.10 and mile time of 4:44. I feel very lucky to have someone of Britt's caliber commit to our team."
Also, Clifton Scarborough has joined the CCCC cross country program as an assistant coach. A native of Richmond, Va., he relocated to Durham in 2008 to attend N.C. Central University where he ran as a collegiate sprinter for two years. Scarborough obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Exercise Sport Science, along with a Strength and Conditioning Certification through the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He is an active track and field athlete, and currently serves as an assistant coach for Bull City Express Track Club in Durham.
