SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College Health and Fitness Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the CCCC Lee Main Campus Classroom & Fitness Center.

This event is the brainstorm of the first cohort of the Health and Fitness Science program students in response to a class project in their Fitness Facility Management course.

"The design of the class project is to conceive an event that would interest the general public and build it from the ground up in regards to marketing, implementation, and execution of the event," said Carl Bryan, CCCC Health and Fitness Science Department Chair. "The students have secured over 25 vendors to participate in their first attempt at promoting fitness and wellness. Not only do students, faculty, and staff benefit from this project, but also the general public will come into contact with various business partners in the fitness and wellness industry.

"The students have attempted to address all aspects of wellness -- from psychological to physical to nutritional to vocational," said Bryan. "I'm excited that this cohort has explored all facets of event planning in orchestrating this event for the public."

The Health and Fitness Fair provides an opportunity for students and faculty to collaborate between multiple health sciences disciplines through partnership with local community health and fitness experts, according to Lisa Godfrey, CCCC Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services. "This event serves to promote healthy living through overall wellness that incorporates both health and fitness and connects the local community to resources here in Lee County and at Central Carolina Community College," said Godfrey.

Central Carolina Community College's Health and Fitness Science program prepares multi-skilled fitness professionals to be qualified to perform various skills in the health and fitness industry. Graduates of the Health and Fitness Science program will be required to sit for the American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer Certification Exam before graduation. Graduates may also be eligible to sit for a variety of other examinations that pertain to the health and fitness industry.
