SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College Student Government Association President Carlos Sanchez-Mendez of Siler City recently received the Bryan Pugh Award during the spring conference of the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA).
Bryan Pugh was the first president of the N4CSGA. The Bryan Pugh Award is selected by the current president of the N4CSGA, and is given to an individual who worked diligently and exceeded the expectations that are required for his or her office. The recipient of this award symbolizes the commitment necessary to serve others effectively.
Priya Balakrishnan, president of the N4CSGA as well as president of the Blue Ridge Community College Student Government Association, presented the award. "Carlos has gone above and beyond his call of duty as an officer on the N4CSGA Executive Board," she said. "He has dedicated countless hours to help make his work as Local Interactions Chair successful for over 800,000 students in the N.C. Community College System. I am very proud of him and can't wait to see where he goes in life."
Sanchez-Mendez, who has served on N4CSGA Executive Board since November 2014, said it was a great honor to receive the award. "I am happy to know that I was able to represent the students to the best of my abilities, because that is what I was trusted to do," said Sanchez-Mendez. "I would like to dedicate this award to my mother and everyone who has helped me get to where I am now."
"Carlos has served as CCCC Student Government Association President with distinction. We are proud to see Carlos receive this honor for his commitment and dedication," said CCCC President Dr. T. Eston Marchant.
