LILLINGTON - Eighteen students participated in Central Carolina Community College's FUN with Lasers workshop on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the CCCC Harnett County Campus.

Students participating in the program were Avery Chumley, Briana Capp, Kendall Wood (Coats-Erwin Middle School); Eden Rothermund (Cape Fear Christian Academy); Tyrique Stephens-Cross, Gabriel Jess, Michael Flaherty, Salvatore Giallombardo (Overhills High School); Ryan Smith (Western Harnett High School); Jake Neal (SanLee Middle School); Seth Kuenzler (Lee Early College); Wyatt Tucker (GFC Academy), and Williams and Abbi Capps, Jacob Riggs, Tarrek Mohamed, Ashlyn and Zachary Strickland from Home School communities.

During the workshop, students rotated around the Laser & Photonics Department to view hands-on demonstrations on how electrical components are used to conduct light, watched as a high-power laser beam melt a brick, and viewed a colorful light display using an Argon-Krypton Laser. They learned how crystals and fiber are incorporated into the technology used every day and watched as names appeared on a nametag with the use of the CO2 engraving laser.

CCCC Gary Beasley, Laser & Photonics Lead Instructor, conducted the workshop with the assistance from David Pope, John Kizis, Jeremiah and Joshua Roberts, Nathanael Turley, Thomas Morris-Martin, and Katie Hall.
