LILLINGTON - Central Carolina Community College's Phlebotomy program has received recognition of a Structured Phlebotomy Program from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is the world's largest professional membership organization for pathologists and laboratory professionals, according to the organization's website. "Our mission is to provide excellence in education, certification and advocacy on behalf of patients, pathologists and laboratory professionals across the globe. With more than 100,000 members, the society's influence has guided the application and evolution of the pathology and laboratory medicine specialty since 1922," the ASCP website states.

"Offering students the opportunity to be certified by ASCP enables them to carry their certification with them no matter where they might live within the U.S.," says Donna Rhodes, CCCC Phlebotomy Instructor.

Lennie Stephenson, CCCC Director of Continuing Education Medical Programs, says, "ASCP certification guarantees that our students will have the credential needed to secure job placement at any healthcare facility within our service area and beyond."
