SANFORD - Since 1989, area golfers have been hitting the links at the Central Carolina Community College Foundation's annual Golf Classic to financially assist students at the college.

The 26th Annual Golf Classic, held Sept. 23 at the Sanford Golf Course, attracted 144 golfers and raised over $28,000.

"The tournament was a huge success again this year," said Jonathan Hockaday, Foundation Golf Classic coordinator. "We are thankful for all the community support because they make this tournament what it is. Lee County has given so much to us. We will use all the proceeds from the tournament to go directly back to our students."

Since it began in Lee County, the Golf Classic has raised more than $500,000 and enabled the Foundation to award hundreds scholarships and other financial assistance to students.

The winners of the A.M. Shotgun Round and team scores were:

First Flight:

First place - 55 - Steve Carter, Rod Brechisen, Jim Ulrich, and Ron Ross.

Two foursomes tied for Second Place with team scores of 57: Alan Holt, Tim Richardson, John Crumpton, and Ron Minter; and Bobby Powell, Jack Radley, Ronnie Brown, and Larry Wilder.

Second Flight:

Two foursomes tied for First Place with team scores of 59: Mark Midford, Dale Bryant, Jeff Osborne, and Brad Kidd; and Richard Galloway, Dal Langston, Morris McClelion, and Brian Davis.

Third place - 61 - Jerry Hamm, Jerry Campbell, Raymond Womble, and Craig Lister.

Third Flight:

First Place - 63 - Dale Gregory, Vince Wenger, Johnnie Badgett, and Mike Hart.

Second Place - 64 - Carey Eckel, Carl Iceman, Wade Barker, and Aaron Eubanks.

Third Place - 65 - George Langston, Jack Maxwell, Frank Thompson, and Jim Turner.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Bobby Powell and Jack Radley. The Longest Drive winner was Jack Radley.

The winners of the P.M. Shotgun Round and team scores were:

First Flight:

First Place - 54 - Brandon Honeycutt, Tom Gordon, Roy Eubanks, and Mike Large.

Second Place - 54 - Andy Phillips, Wayne Freeman Jr., Tripp Brizendine, and Mike Cox.

Third Place - 55 - Walter Brinker, Joan Wicker, Scottie Goodwin, and Lacy Tripp.

Second Flight:

Two foursomes tied for First Place with a team score of 58: Mike Hendley, Rodney Harrill, Buddy Keller, and Odell Brady; and Travis Bailey, Colin Peregoy, Robert Garrison, and Charles Thomas.

Third Place - 61 - Joffree Bradley, Melissa Bradley, Candy Bloedorn, and Tony Bloedorn.

Third Flight:

Two foursomes tied for First Place with team scores of 65: Troy Winter, Jeff Moncreif, Dusty Wood, and Kenny Stewart; and Randy Fletcher, Dawn Rodgers, Mark Hundley, and Tony Quick.

Third Place - 66 - Phil Bradley, Mikeal Basinger, John Wiggins, and Thurman Tart.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Pat Kirkman and Kel Normann. The Longest Drive winner was Chris Brown.

Members of the 2015 Golf Committee were Phil Bradley (Tournament Chairman), Travis Bailey, Mikeal Basinger, David Caplan, Tom Joyner, George Lucier, Donnie Oldham, Chas Post, Bobby Powell, Lynda Turbeville, Bill Wilson, and CCCC President Dr. T.E. Marchant.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with, but independent of, the college. It receives donations of money and equipment on behalf of CCCC and uses them to promote the educational mission of the college and assist students through scholarships and grants.
