Jamie Kelly honored for service to CCCC

SANFORD -- Central Carolina Community College's Board of Trustees honored Jamie Kelly at its July 22 meeting in the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center.

Kelly, of Sanford, had served on the board of trustees since 2011. CCCC President Dr. T.E. Marchant and Julian Philpott, chair of the board of trustees, presented Kelly with a pen-and-ink drawing of college buildings by artist Jerry Miller.

Marchant praised Kelly for his work in leading the effort for the college's $23 million bonds on the November 2014 ballot. Lee County residents approved the bonds that include construction of the Lee Health Sciences Center, expansion and renovation of the Veterinary Medical Technology facility, renovation and expansion of the Emergency Services Training Center, and new construction and renovation at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center.

"Jamie led us through that election with precision and flawless logic," said Marchant. "Jamie, thank you. You truly, truly, truly helped get these bonds passed and you have helped set the future of this college for the next 20 years."

Philpott noted that Kelly did a fantastic job in service as a member and chairman of the trustees' finance committee. "Jamie, you've been an outstanding example of what it means to be a willing volunteer and a provider of exemplary service to this college and community," said Philpott. "On behalf of the rest of the trustees, we're extremely grateful for your exemplary service to Central Carolina Community College and we thank you very much."

Kelly, who is CEO of Tree Frog Properties and a former member of the Lee County Board of Commissioners, said that serving on the CCCC Board of Trustees had been a fun ride. "I was very proud to be able to stand up for this college and go to the community and say this is needed right now," said Kelly, in reference to the bonds. "I think that this community has made such big strides in the last few years in regards to the community college. Central Carolina Community College is a shining star in the State of North Carolina and I'm very proud to be a member and former member of this board."
