PITTSBORO - Golfers, grab your clubs for a day of fun and fellowship for a good cause as the Central Carolina Community College Foundation hosts its first Chatham County Golf Classic on April 16 at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club.
Since 1989, the Foundation has hosted an annual Golf Classic in Lee County, raising funds for scholarships and other financial assistance for the college's students. During that time, more than $500,000 has been raised, assisting hundreds to afford their college education, regardless of their county of residence.
"CCCC is one of the best community colleges in the country because of our success in job training for local citizens," said George Lucier, of Pittsboro, a Foundation Board member and former college trustee. "The Chatham County Golf Classic is a great chance to have fun, play golf at The Preserve and support the many needs of CCCC focused on economic development and job training. We hope to see a great turnout on April 16."
The Preserve is a Davis Love III signature course. It is a designated Audubon International Certified Sanctuary Golf Course, providing not only an interesting and challenging course, but also a beautiful setting.
More than 40 golfers have already registered for the event. The Shotgun start is at 9 a.m., with the tournament wrapping up with lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The format for the Chatham County Golf Classic is four-person Captain's Choice Flighted. Players will be flighted based on their handicaps. Top teams in each flight will receive prizes. There will also be contests for longest drive, closest-to-pin, and putting.
Sponsorships are available at various levels: a $200 Silver Sponsor receives sponsorship recognition; a $600 Gold Sponsor receives sponsorship recognition and one foursome; a $1,000 Platinum Sponsor receives two teams and sponsorship recognition.
"We couldn't be more excited about this new tournament in Chatham County," said Emily Hare, director of the CCCC Foundation and Development Office. "Chatham County has really supported Central Carolina Community College and helped us grow in Siler City and in Pittsboro. We are so grateful for the continued support and look forward to a successful tournament!"
The Chatham County Golf Classic registration form can be downloaded from the Foundation's web site, www.cccc.edu/foundation/events/golftournament. Registration is also available by contacting Hare at 919-718-7230 or by email at ehare@cccc.edu, or by calling Jonathan Hockaday at the Foundation, 919-356-4330.
The CCCC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with, but independent of, Central Carolina Community College. It receives donations of money and equipment on behalf of CCCC and uses them to promote the educational mission of the college and assist students through scholarships and grants.
