SANFORD, N.C. - Angie Estes, Veterans Affairs Coordinator at Central Carolina Community College, has been named one of 31 outstanding individuals with the 2024 Veteran Champions of the Year in Higher Education award by Military Friendly(R).
This prestigious recognition celebrates those who go above and beyond in advocating for the advancement and success of student veterans in higher education.
"Coming from a military family, I know the struggles veterans face transitioning from military life to civilian life. Veterans, along with their families, have sacrificed so much for our country," said Estes. "I feel it is so important to advocate for them to be sure they are getting what they need both within their educational journey and beyond. I do not take my role as someone who serves them lightly. They deserve the best we can give them."
CCCC President Dr. Lisa M. Chapman noted: "I am so pleased that Angie's efforts are being recognized as I know how she prioritizes her commitment to our veteran community every day. This commitment is a vital component of CCCC's culture of working to continuously improve our support of our veterans. As Angie shares, they and their families sacrifice a lot in service to our country. The college believes we can best honor that service by providing them the best service we can and Angie lives that every day."
