CCCC students compete in state SkillsUSA competition

SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College students recently competed in the North Carolina SkillsUSA championships, a competition developing career and technical skills for students in middle school, high school, and college.
Four first-place winners earned the opportunity to participate in the SkillsUSA national championships - Claudio Castro-Reyes of Cameron (Commercial Baking), Rosalio Avalos of Sanford (Internetworking), Gerald Jones of Benson (Motorcycle Service Technology), and Robben Kadish of Spring Lake (Welding Sculpture). The nationals will be held June 19-24 in Atlanta, Ga.
CCCC students competing in the state SkillsUSA competition in the various categories, with places in parentheses:
- Commercial Baking: Claudia Castro-Reyes of Cameron (1st).
- Culinary Arts: Faith Looper of Cameron, Christopher Syros of Wake Forest (5th), Kionna Barrett of Angier, Claire Jones of Sanford.
- Internetworking: Rosalio Avalos of Sanford (1st), Ernesto Jimenez Flores of Sanford (2nd), Kyle Leach of Goldston, Minerva Martos Rodarte of Cameron (3rd), Zachary Short of Sanford.
- Job Skill Demonstration Open: William Little of Sanford.
- Motorcycle Service Technology: Robert Clayton of Spring Lake (3rd), Gerald Jones of Benson (1st).
- Skill Project Showcase - Engineering: Cullen LeBrun of Erwin (3rd), Daniel Lewis of Sanford (3rd), Jason Choate of Bunnlevel (2nd), Mason Robinson of Sanford (2nd), Jordan Cram of Sanford (1st), Adrian Gallardo of Sanford (1st).
- Skill Project Showcase - Metalworking: Luis Ramirez Fernandez of Sanford, Brandon Shade of Raleigh, Bertin Pinales of Sanford, John Vollert of Lillington. (The team of Pinales and Vollert won Silver.)
- Welding: Adilene Adame of Broadway, Angel Morales of Sanford.
- Welding Fabrication: Jairo Alvarez Sotelo of Sanford, Iznardo Ruiz of Angier, Gilberto Salazar Ruiz of Sanford, Ahoner Cortes Bautista of Angier, Adahir Cortes Bautista of Sanford, Isai Gomez Salazar of Sanford.
- Welding Sculpture: Garrett Brown of Fuquay-Varina (3rd), Noah Carnahan of Lillington (4th), Layden Harris of Sanford (2nd), Robben Kadish of Spring Lake (1st), Sarah Barbour of Moncure, Crozes Cream of Pittsboro, Joseph King of Pittsboro.
