SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College 2022-2023 women's basketball team is looking for continuing improvement.

"We are a young team with good talent," said Marcel Webster, CCCC women's basketball coach.

"Our strengths are that we will be better at shooting the basketball this year. I believe we will be able to score more points this year," said Coach Webster. "We will also be a much better defensive team as well."

Returnees include, with their hometowns: D'Naesha Saxon (Aiken, S.C.), Anna Smith (Rockingham, N.C.), and Asia Waiters (Sayreville, N.J.). Saxon averaged 4 points and 2 rebounds per game last year. Smith was the team MVP and averaged 11 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals per game last year. Waiters, the team Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds per game last year.

New members of the team are: Tynashya Anthony (Sumter, S.C.), Ashia Austin (Mauldin, S.C.), Kamilah Coley (Durham, N.C.), Melanie Livingston (Phoenix, Ariz.), Zoey McMickens (Savannah, Ga.), Janiya Mitchell (Schenectady, N.Y.), Sherijah Rhames (Hickory, N.C.), and Destiny Stewart (Norfolk, Va.).

"I am excited by the close-knit group this team has become," said Coach Webster. "We will be a fun team to watch."
