SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College Foundation has received a gift from Mountaire Farms Inc. of a 2015 T680 Day Cab Tractor that will be used in the college's Commercial Truck Driver Training Program.

"Mountaire is a fantastic partner and the contribution of this truck will support the growth of the CCCC Commercial Driver License (CDL) program and ensure that we can train individuals to enter the high-demand field of truck driving," says Margaret Roberton, CCCC Vice President for Workforce Development. "We are very appreciative of our relationship with Mountaire and look forward to how we can continue to work together to support the community."

Bassett, Mountaire Director of Communications & Community Relations, noted: "All of us have been feeling the impact of supply chain issues and truck drivers are needed now more than ever. We are proud to support Central Carolina Community College with this donation that will help train and recruit truck drivers to keep our American economy rolling."

The Commercial Truck Driver course is offered through the Triangle Regional Career Kickstart (TRuCK) Collaborative between Central Carolina Community College, Randolph Community College, and Sandhills Community College. The TRuCK Collaborative is a regional workforce solution to the demand for commercial truck drivers in the combined service areas of Chatham, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, and Randolph counties.

The CDL course prepares students for the Class A Commercial Driver License. Instruction includes theory, and practical hands-on behind-the-wheel operation of tractor trailers preparing students to safely operate tractor trailer vehicles on the road to and from pickup and delivery points. Emphasis is placed on defensive driving, Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations, trip planning, cargo handling, vehicle systems, hours of service, vehicle inspection, and accident prevention. Upon successful completion, students will be able to demonstrate the skills required for the commercial driver license and employment.

Eight individuals recently passed the inaugural CCCC class - and had a 100 percent passing rate for the Class A Commercial Driver License with the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles.
