SANFORD - Five members of the college community were honored with awards during the Central Carolina Community College Virtual Convocation on Friday, Aug. 14.

The award recipients:

  • Instructor of the Year: Thadd McElreath, Physical Education / Health and Fitness Science Instructor.
  • Staff Member of the Year: Amanda Carter, Distance Education Director.
  • Adjunct of the Year: Jamie Owensby, Chemistry Instructor.
  • Excellence in Advising Award: Dr. Carl Bryan, Program Director for Health & Fitness Science.
  • Cougar Champion of the Year Award: David Haire, Network Administrator.

Earlier in the program, Dr. Audrey J. Jaeger, Executive Director of the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor at N.C. State University, spoke to CCCC faculty and staff.

Dr. Jaeger noted that Central Carolina is on the right path, as she cited four reasons.

  • The CCCC new Strategic Plan has a clear vision - exceptional learning for all.
  • CCCC has a commitment to supporting students.
  • CCCC recognizes that student needs are different, with a focus on equity.
  • CCCC recognizes and accepts its role in the community.
