SANFORD, N.C. - The Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) Health Information Technology (HIT) Department has earned its accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Health Information Management (CAHIIM).
The CCCC HIT earned a 100% compliance with all 33 accreditation standards. CAHIIM currently accredits over 345 programs in Health Informatics and Health Information Management at the Associate, Baccalaureate, and Master Degree levels.
Now that this accreditation has been achieved, graduates of the HIT program are eligible to write and sit for the valuable industry credentials of Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Erika Parker, CCCC HIT Program Director, noted, "The CAHIIM accreditation process was very valuable for our program and our college. To receive this level of achievement on this accreditation review is very humbling, but it is a true reflection of the hard work of our faculty, the quality of our program, and the commitment we provide to our students. We do big things here at CCCC!"
Denise Martin, CCCC Associate Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services and Health Information Technology instructor, said the field of Health Information Technology is an excellent choice for students who want to work in healthcare, but not in a direct patient care role. "There are many different jobs that you can get with this degree and plenty of room for growth in your career. HIT jobs pay very well, and many of them have remote options that allow you to work from home," said Martin. "The HIT faculty here at CCCC are phenomenal in supporting students as they go through the program, helping them not only academically, but also preparing them to be professionals in a dynamic industry, where they can hit the ground running in their careers after graduation."
The HIT program is hosting a Registered Health Information Technician Exam Prep workshop on Nov. 22 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic & Conference Center in Sanford, N.C. Students, alumni, and community members are all welcomed and encouraged to attend. For more information and to register for this event, please contact Erika Parker, CCCC HIT Program Director, at eparker@cccc.edu or 910-814-8820.
