SANFORD - Richard Briggs has been named the new cross country coach at Central Carolina Community College. He most recently was an assistant cross country coach at Fayetteville State University.

"We are very excited to have Richard as our cross country coach," said Jonathan Hockaday, CCCC Athletic Director. "With his coaching experience at the NCAA level and his passion for the sport, we think he is a perfect fit and are looking for big things out of the cross country program this year."

The 2019 season will mark the second year of the CCCC cross country program. "I'm excited about the CCCC cross country program because it's still in its beginning stages," said Briggs. "I get to work with young people, help shaping them for the 'real world,' all while being a part of history."

Briggs said his goals and aspirations for the CCCC cross country program include having young people become a part of the program who will represent it at a high level. "Not only am I looking to win our region and be well represented at nationals, we must have student athletes who are getting it done in the classroom, making honor roll and the Dean's List," said Briggs.

What message would Briggs like to send to potential CCCC cross country athletes? "The message I would like to send high school/student athletes considering the CCCC cross country program is -- if you're passionate about running, contact me. Let's chat about all that CCCC has to offer," said Briggs. "Come be a part of something special. Sports helped me tremendously when I was in school and I'm sure it would be a big benefit to you. Lifelong bonds, personal and professional skill development, tons of fun, and so much more are here for you," said Briggs.

Briggs is married to Tamica Briggs - and has two children, Vinesha Briggs and Sean Briggs.
