SANFORD - The Triangle South Workforce Development Board (TSWDB), serving Chatham, Harnett, Lee, and Sampson counties, recently had two NCWorks Career Pathways -- Health Care and Advanced Manufacturing -- certified by the NCWorks Commission.
TSWDB staff members traveled to Asheville on Aug. 8 to receive state level recognition for their collaborative efforts in meeting the stringent criteria of a Certified NCWorks Career Pathway.
NCWorks Certified Career Pathways are integrated, seamless systems of education and workforce development programs, initiatives, and resources. They are purposeful plans for education and training leading to knowledge and skill acquisition and successful careers. NCWorks Career Pathways focus on matching worker preparation to employer need in high-demand occupations. They are key to engaging industry and ensuring the education and training pipeline at the local level is aligned with the needs of local businesses.
Certified Career Pathways are created by regional and local teams that consist of engaged employers, workforce development boards, high schools, and community colleges.
The Health Care Career Pathway provides comprehensive training in the Health Care industry sector and meets the growing need for skilled workers to perform varied positions within the occupation. It has been designed to allow multiple and diverse populations access to training and employment throughout their careers. There are a wide range of entry/exit points for adults, dislocated workers, and youth, and there are opportunities in place to pursue short-term certifications that lead directly to a job, or advanced degree programs that can be pursued at the post-secondary level.
The Advanced Manufacturing NCWorks Career Pathway is designed to allow multiple and diverse populations access to training and employment throughout their careers. It prioritizes work-based learning as a strategy for career exploration and workforce engagement. This pathway has formed advisory committees through the partnering community colleges that review curricula and provide insight on future labor needs. These committees also consist of professionals from local manufacturing companies who employ individuals at different stages of the Advanced Manufacturing Pathway and provide the hands-on experience needed in technical areas.
TSWDB staff is appreciative of the collaborative efforts of all community partners that helped bring the certification of these NCWorks Career Pathways to fruition.
