Three CCCC presidents awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine

Past Central Carolina Community College presidents Dr. Marvin R. Joyner (left) and Dr. Matthew S. Garrett (center) were honored with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine at a March 4 reception at the college's Lee County Campus. Former N.C. Sen. Bob Atwater (right) presents the certificate to Garrett as N.C. Community College System President Scott Ralls looks on. Past President J.F. "Jeff" Hockaday was also inducted, but unable to attend the ceremony. His son, Jon Hockaday, received the certificate for him. The Order is presented to citizens of the state who have given outstanding service and contributed toward creating a better North Carolina. Since its inception in 1963, only about 15,000 have been awarded.
