North Carolina Lt. Gov. Dan Forest (center) and his wife, Alice (left) hosted a Christmas Open House Dec. 12 at the Lieutenant Governor's mansion, the historic Hawkins-Hartness House, in Raleigh. Chef Gregg Hamm (right), director of Central Carolina Community College' Hospitality and Culinary Arts Program, and his Culinary Arts students were invited to provide the refreshments for the event. The students prepared 1,000 cookies using wholesome ingredients such as molasses, local honey, whole grains, gluten-free flours, and local eggs. They also prepared local apple cider for the enjoyment of the visitors. Hamm said it was an honor to be asked to do the event and an exciting experience for the students.
