CCCC hosts China National Orchestra members' lecture, performance

Central Carolina Community College's Confucius Classroom hosted the China National Orchestra's artistic director Xi Qiang and several of the orchestra's members in an Oct. 2 Chinese Music Exhibition and Seminar in the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. The audience of more than 100 of all ages were entertained and educated as the orchestra members presented the history and sounds of various Chinese instruments, some with histories dating back thousands of years. Central Carolina Community College's Confucius Classroom hosted Xi Chiang (center), artistic director of the China National Orchestra, and several orchestra members Oct. 2 in the Chinese Music Exhibition and Seminar at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. Following the exhibition, CCCC President Bud Marchant (from center right), Dean of University Transfer and Health Science Jon Matthews, and CCCC Confucius Classroom Visiting Professor Guan Wang, present gifts of miniature face jugs to Xi and the musicians. North Cole Pottery, in Sanford, crafted the piece presented to Xi and Lantern Hill Pottery crafted the others. The audience of more than 100 of all ages were entertained and educated as the musicians and Xi presented the history and sounds of various Chinese instruments, some with histories dating back thousands of years.
