Husband and wife Peter Crawford and Katherine Smart started and built up WaveFront, Inc., a successful small business in Pittsboro. The business is based on Crawford's invention of TillerClutch, a sailboat tiller accessory that allows for short periods of hands-free steering. Manufactured in North Carolina, the TillerClutch is marketed internationally. WaveFront also retails boating accessories from other manufacturers. Crawford and Smart say that Central Carolina Community College's Small Business Center has played an essential role in the company's success by providing knowledge and advice on how to build a viable small business. For more information about WaveFront, Inc., visit www.wavefrontmarine.com or email the company at info@wavefrontmarine.com.
