Chinese troupe thrills audience, makes friends

Shanxi University dancers and musicians from the People's Republic of China delighted and thrilled an audience of about 600 with their performance Feb. 1 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. The Red Lantern dance depicts a lively spring festival in Shanxi Province. Central Carolina Community College's Confucius Classroom, in partnership with N.C. State University's Confucius Institute, sponsored the performance by professors and students from Shanxi University's School of Music. Among the pieces performed was the traditional Tibetan dance, 'Love Song of Kang Ding,' which expresses joy in life and the future.
