CCCC, Chatham hold groundbreaking for new Siler City Center

Local, state and college officials gathered Monday in the Central Carolina Business Campus, in Siler City, for the groundbreaking ceremony for Central Carolina Community College’s new Siler City Center. Among those wielding shovels for the event were (from left) Bobby Powell, chairman of the college’s board of trustees; N.C. Sen. Bob Atwater, CCCC Chatham County Provost Karen Allen; N.C. Rep. Joe Hackney; George Lucier, chairman of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners and college trustee; Siler City Mayor Charles Turner; and Dianne Reid, president of the Chatham County Economic Development Corporation. The Center will enable the college to expand educational opportunities and workforce training for the residents of western Chatham County.
Local, state and college officials gathered Monday in the Central Carolina Business Campus, in Siler City, for the groundbreaking ceremony for Central Carolina Community College’s new Siler City Center. The $4 million, 23,800 square-foot facility will enable the college to expand educational opportunities and workforce training for the residents of western Chatham County. It was designed by Hobbs Architects, of Pittsboro, and construction is by Monteith Construction Corp., of Moncure. The new building will meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED energy efficiency Silver certification, or higher. Construction is scheduled for completion in fall 2010.
