Sustainable vegetable growing comes to Central Carolina’s West Harnett Center

Gardening time is here and Central Carolina Community College staff is putting up a hoop house at the college’s West Harnett Center to house the garden of the new ‘Introduction to Sustainable Vegetable Production’ course being offered at the center. Ronnie Measamer, physical plant manager, and staff, Danny Dean, Joel Oldham and Johnny Dickens, will cover the hoop frame with plastic to provide a protected area for the growing vegetables. The nine-week Continuing Education course runs 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays, March 24-May 19. To sign up, call the center at (910) 498-1210. If interested in a sustainable vegetable production class on Wednesday evenings, contract instructor Rob VanderVoort at the same number, ext. 1004. The center is located at 145 Olive Farm Drive, in the Western Harnett Industrial Park, south of Sanford and north of the intersection of highways 87 and 27.
