EPP Residency Licensure

Program Overview

The Residency Licensure Certificate program is designed for college graduates who hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field and desire to become an elementary education teacher. For admission into the program, the candidate must:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or eligible for employment.
  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 GPA or higher.
  • Have completed 24 hours of coursework in the requested licensure area or passed the North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) required content area examination(s) for the requested licensure area.
  • Have a letter of employment or promised placement from the PSU/LEA.
  • Completed professional development training required by the PSU/LEA.

Admission Process

NCCCS staff worked collaboratively with the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) to develop a unique single portal entry application for prospective applicants. CFNC houses the Alternative NC Teaching License: NCCCS Cultivating Carolina Classrooms Application.

Once an application is received, the NCCCS EPP Program Coordinator will evaluate the applicant’s eligibility for the program and contact the applicant. The application will then be exported to the appropriate community college for processing and admission. The applicant will be officially enrolled in the program once an official transcript(s) is received and reviewed by the local community college contact for the Residence Licensure Certificate Program and a signed RL Form is submitted.

In addition to the application, students must provide:

  • Unofficial transcripts for admissions purposes,
  • Official transcripts before admitted to the program, Proof of employment or promised placement from the PSU/LEA, and/or
  • A Residency Licensure (RL) Form signed by employing school.
