National Manufacturing Day
On Friday, Oct. 4, Central Carolina Community College proudly took part in National Manufacturing Day, an event brimming with energy and purpose. This day was not just a celebration; it was a vibrant opportunity to dive into the thrilling world of manufacturing. With an aim to expand knowledge, ignite curiosity, and highlight the myriad of career opportunities within this dynamic field, Manufacturing Day underscores the immense value manufacturing brings to North Carolina and seeks to inspire the next generation of makers and innovators.
Making Strides Walk: A Successful Event for Breast Cancer Awareness
We are excited to share that our 2nd Annual Making Strides Walk, held on Oct. 10, was a great success! With a fantastic turnout of 20 participants, including faculty, staff, and their loved ones, we came together to raise awareness for breast cancer and support survivors in our community.
During our walk around campus, participants not only enjoyed the exercise but also learned important facts about breast cancer and its impact. This event was part of our quarterly wellness program and highlighted the importance of both physical health and awareness in supporting those affected by breast cancer.
We are proud to announce that our Cougar Nation team has surpassed our fundraising goal, raising an impressive $1,031.41 for the American Cancer Society. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed and participated in making this event a success!
We also want to extend a special thank you to Dolores Hostert from the Lee County Health Department for attending the event and providing valuable health resources to our participants. Additionally, a huge thank you to the Director of Business Services Christa Mashburn and her team at the Copy Center for their time and talent in creating the posters and signs that helped promote and guide our event. Your efforts were truly appreciated!
Your generosity helps provide critical resources, research funding, and support for breast cancer patients and survivors. If you'd still like to donate or get involved, it's not too late – donations can still be made through our Cougar Nation team page.
We look forward to continuing these efforts and hosting more events to promote wellness and community engagement. Thank you again for your incredible support!
Together, we are making strides.

TRiO SSS Attends 47th Native American Pow Wow
On Sept. 20, TRIO Student Support Services students traveled to Greensboro to the GNAA 47th Annual Pow Wow. A powwow is a social gathering that celebrates American Indian culture through dance, song, and ceremony. The word "powwow" comes from the Narragansett word pawwaw, which means "spiritual leader."
This exhilarating experience was an opportunity for students to experience a modern day celebration of the preservation of culture passed down through generations. A few of our TRiO scholars attended last year, but for some this was a first. The best part for some students was tasting the traditional Native American dishes, such as collard green sandwiches and Indian tacos.
NCCC College and Career Readiness Convocation
Dean of Career and Academic Engagement Claudia Clayton and CCR Career Pathways Coordinator Kim Stewart attended the NCCC College and Career Readiness Convention at Guilford Technical Community College on Sept. 18 and 19. They had the opportunity to attend workshops and learn from other College and Career Readiness programs across the state. While at the conference, Dean Clayton was part of a Director Q&A panel where questions such as navigating cultural and language differences, retention strategies and best practices, and understanding the roles of staff and instructors during orientation were discussed.
Additionally, out of 58 College and Career Readiness programs in North Carolina, we are proud to share that Central Carolina Community College's CCR Department was announced as awarding one of the highest numbers of High School Education diplomas across the state during the PY 2023-2024! Way to go, CCCC!
