Submit your nominations for full-time and part-time Cougar Champion of the month.

Part-Time Cougar Champion of the Month!

July Part-Time Cougar Champion of the Month:
Dr. Bonnye Anthony

"Dr. Anthony is a retired pediatric dentist. She gives her time to the CCCC program because she believes in the staff and the mission. She has a contagious energy which brings me much joy, and I know it positively impacts the faculty and students that she supports. She was instrumental in making CCCC the first community college to offer instruction in anesthesia, bringing even more value to a wonderful program."

"Dr. Anthony has been a joyous addition to CCCC dental programs. She joined our team a little more than two years ago. Dr. Anthony, a pediatric dentist, felt called to teach after a successful career in dentistry. We are the lucky ones to have added her to our team!"

"She has taught some of the doctoral dental trailblazers within our community and surrounding service areas. Many of which are the licensed dentist who serve on our dental advisory board and practice their trade here in Sanford. She was professor to Dr. Antonio Braithwaite who is Sanford, NC’s largest pediatric practice who also has hosted our dental assisting students since the infancy of the program’s opening."

"After the entire dental department became licensed at UNC School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Anthony taught, mentored, and helped train the dental hygiene faculty to teach and give local anesthesia as well as oversaw and talked the students through their first live injections. With numb faces we all left each day with a smile and now so do the patients we serve."

"Dr. Anthony was the dentist through the pandemic when we worked 10-hour shifts, three days a week. She is a real gem! I am very grateful for her unwavering support!"

Part-Time Cougar Champion of the Month!

August Part-Time Cougar Champion of the Month:
Alicia Thomas

"Alicia Thomas assists our office with multiple tasks like scanning, processes applications and transcripts. During the time when our office was short-staffed, she has been such a blessing. I believe she deserves recognition for all she does to help. She is so willing to learn and eager to help us in our office."

"As a retired long-time employee of the college, Alicia is familiar with many of our processes and many of our college family members. Her willingness to assist wherever she is needed and the positive attitude she always brings is exactly what her colleagues need and exemplifies what it means to be a trusted college family member."

"Alicia has a passion for serving people and ensuring they feel valued. She is a real gem!”

Registrars Office

I came to CCCC in 1973 right out of high school as a student. I was a work-study student and was offered a full-time job in the Business Office three months after I started to school. I continued my education at night and started working full-time.

I worked full-time at CCCC for 30 years and retired. After my 30 years, I continued to work part-time in the Business Office, and now I am part-time in the Registrars Office.

I was born and raised and still live in Harnett County. I am blessed with one son, Brandon. I have a large family and many, many friends that I love to spend time with. I also have a dog, Sparky.

I love my church, family, music, sports, and I also work part-time at the Spa at Pinehurst as a massage therapist.

I graduated in the General Office Program, the Esthetic Program, and the Massage Therapy Program at CCCC. I am 67 years old, and I have been at CCCC since I was 19 years old! CCCC has been a great place for me, and I can not imagine NOT being here.

CCCC's Academic & Cultural Enrichment Series (ACES)

CCCC's Academic & Cultural Enrichment Series (ACES) has a mission to provide our students and the service area community with impactful experiences including scholarly lectures, theater, music, dance performances, creative writing/poetry readings and workshops, and visual art installations. ACES seeks to develop well-rounded students and citizens.

Join ACES for a free live musical concert plus Q&A afterward:
Jazz, Ragtime, & Swing Pianist Ethan Uslan www.uslanmusic.com/
Tues., Oct. 25, 2022 1 - 2 p.m.
Temple Theatre, downtown Sanford

About Ethan Uslan
Hailed by the Chicago Tribune for his "vivid musical imagination" and "deep understanding of far-flung performance practices," Ethan Uslan is a ragtime/jazz pianist and raconteur. He is a three-time winner of the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest (yes - that really exists!) and has performed all over the USA, including at the Ravinia Festival, Scott Joplin Festival, and on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion. He has also performed in England, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Cyberspace, where his jazzed-up Für Elise has gone viral. He has been featured in the documentary "The Entertainers" (2012) and in 2022 he was cast as Count Lestat's piano double for the AMC series "Interview with a Vampire."

Please email me at bstumpf@cccc.edu if you'd like to reserve free seats for you and/or your students or colleagues. Then we'll move forward with the easy reservation and details needed to participate.

ACES events are wonderful fodder for classroom discussion. With the rich cultural history of jazz, ragtime, and swing, there are connections to so many academic disciplines. Even outside of the classroom context, experiencing a new genre of live music helps develop a fuller, more nuanced understanding of yourself, others, and the world.

Hope that you and/or your students/colleagues will be part of the audience for this special opportunity on Oct. 25th!

Fantastic Facilitator

The Admissions team would like to highlight a member of our college for their excellent work and volunteered time with New Student Orientation and/or Tech Bootcamp. For this month’s Fantastic Facilitator, we have selected Adana Arnold!

We asked Adana, "Why do you volunteer as a facilitator and why is it important to you?"

Adana responded, "I volunteer because...I care. I care that our students are successful in all their endeavors. I care about students having access to all available resources. I want our students to know that they have advocates in their corner. New Student Orientation is not only something we have to do, but is truly beneficial to students and staff. For students it gives them an introduction to the college they chose to attend. They learn the necessary do’s and don’ts of college, available resources and where their classes are located. For first-generation students, this is key because they may not have had any college experience before. Incoming freshman students who are not/were not CCP participants benefit from this, too. As for the staff, it serves as a process checker. During the orientation session, they are able to see what information is helpful and any ambiguity that should be removed--in an attempt to make the sessions more effective and efficient. I volunteer because I want all students to be empowered when making decisions and navigating their way through college life."
