CCCC Employee of the Month!
August Full-Time Employee of the Month: Beverly Diniz
"As most college offices will tell you, the administrative assistant position is the most important link in the chain of service to students. Beverly is adept at putting out fires, answering questions and fulfilling requests. She is the face of the Siler City Center as the first person most people see when they walk through the door. Recently, three out of the four full-time staff at Siler City Center had to stay home due to illness and exposure for several days. This left Beverly as the sole full-time employee with both CCR and Con. Ed. classes in the building. She maintained the best attitude during this time, communicated frequently with the rest of the staff and never missed a beat with her regular duties, checking on classes and staying late to check on the evening classes as well to make sure instructors had what they needed."
"Beverly recently picked up an Adult High School graduate in Pittsboro and drove her through the drive-thru CCR High School Graduation ceremony in Sanford because the student's family could not do it, and the student doesn't drive. She even got out and took pictures of the student in front of the CCCC sign. This is one example of her compassion for the students and celebrating with them in their success."
"Beverly puts customer service to the student above all else. She goes out of her way to help on the scholarship committee routinely calling students back three and four times to help them get what they need to attend class. She takes the initiative to follow up with CCR students when they miss orientations or to remind them of High School Equivalency testing. She juggles CCR responsibilities with helping Con. Ed. with registrations and class contracts, as well as serving on the scholarship committee at a time with many dollars and applicants. She has walked students through the application process on the phone as well as in person in the computer lab. She has helped curriculum students complete applications and set up emails for their classes simply because they walked through the door at Siler City Center, although they are not taking classes there."
"Beverly is the first to volunteer for manning our College and Career Readiness booths at local festivals and retail parking lots, never missing one event. At her initiative, Beverly took Spanish conversation classes at CCCC to help the ESL students who come to the college. When COVID testing started at the Siler City Center, it was Beverly's idea to have signs made to advertise our classes to put along the testing drive path, and we have seen significant response from these signs. She also routinely volunteers to sub in CCR classes when the need arises."
Beverly Diniz
Administrative Assistant, Continuing EducationI started working for CCCC back in 2009 when asked to be a substitute teacher for the GED classes in the old Siler City building. I am currently an Administrative Assistant at the Siler City Center and support both College and Career Readiness (CCR) and Continuing Education (ConEd). On Wednesdays I go to the Con Ed office on Pittsboro Main Campus to support students, faculty and staff there. I also use the time to connect with the students who have applied for a ConEd Scholarship in order to assist them with registration and completing more scholarship applications.
I have a passion for our students and just like many here at CCCC will go out of my way to assist them with whatever they need to help them succeed. When I’m not at CCCC, I’m playing with or training one of my five dogs. I would have more if my husband would let me.Part-Time CCCC Employee of the Month!
August Part-Time Employee of the Month: Dr. Tyler Brady
"Dr. Brady is patient, kind, and is dedicated to student learning. One of his students has said of him: 'He goes above and beyond his duties to not only make sure people learn, but understand. He treats people and animals with unconditional kindness and understanding. He is always ready to lend a helping hand or listening ear. He wants to make sure everyone around him succeeds and feels confident.'"
"Dr. Brady goes above and beyond for his students. For example, he will tutor for hours on end, far longer than he needs to, just to make sure that students comprehend what he is working with them on. The students are so appreciative of the time he takes, even when he's busy, to help them."
"Dr. Brady is an excellent adjunct who we can rely on for nearly anything. He is never afraid to jump into any class or lab setting to help out, and we know and trust that he has what it takes to get the job done."
"Dr. Brady gives very thoughtful feedback to instructors leading the labs that he adjuncts in. Because of him, we've been able to get some creative teaching models into the labs. For example, he brought in real beef hearts and kidneys to anatomy lab, instead of relying on plastic models."
Dr. Tyler Brady
Veterinary Medical Technology (VMT) Instructor
"I have been with CCCC since 2018. I have been colleagues with Dr. Browning for many years, and have had a lot of respect for her professional direction.
I graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. I have mainly practiced with large animals and livestock over the years. I have owned two practices, and still own and operate a small mobile veterinary clinic.
I was out west in Nevada for several years and was fortunate to be involved with the Bureau of Land Management and the wild mustang operations, owning a successful mobile practice, and working with several youth groups using horses in their therapy sessions.
I have interacted and evaluated students nearly all of my career and have written many recommendation letters for students that are now practicing veterinarians. I am very blessed and happy to be a part of something much bigger than myself.
I am impressed by the program here at CCCC. The full-time faculty is the cream of the crop. I am lucky to be in their presence, and I feel like I am among greatness every day I am around them. Thank you for the opportunity. "
WOW! WHAT A TEAM!
September 11th Remembrance
In remembrance of 9/11, donuts, water, and coffee were offered to CCCC faculty, staff, and students who are first responders, military, and/or veterans on Monday, Sept. 13, at the CCCC Chatham, Harnett, and Lee main campuses.
CCCC Hosts College Connections Experience
Nine students successfully completed summer requirements for the college's College Connections free first-year experience and have chosen to continue their academic journey at the college.
The no-cost program is designed to offer a cohort of incoming freshmen the chance to prepare for college life, focus on career exploration, earn free summer course credit, enrich their academic skills, and have fun with new friends. This cohort will have additional opportunities beyond the summer to earn micro credentials and stay engaged socially during their time at college.
The eight-week summer semester program included a free laptop ... and lunch each day. Students had the opportunity to meet more than 30 college faculty and staff who helped them decide on academic and career plans for their futures.
Student comments included:
"All the faculty had great energy and inspired me to work toward my goals. I am so grateful for this experience."
"This program means that I have a whole new world opened up to me. I learned how to use my computer in a way I never thought I could."
"This program gives you opportunities that you won't experience anywhere else. It helps you find your passion, your drive, what you want to progress in life with. They also help you understand college life, and you get to meet faculty."
"This program means knowledge. It lets you know you are not alone."
Dr. Cristy Holmes, CCCC Associate Dean of University Transfer and Academic Advising, said the College Connections Experience positively impacted everyone involved. "I'm not sure who was more excited about the opportunity, the students or the staff," said Dr. Holmes. "The students were hungry to learn how to navigate college life. They were surprised by the variety of academic pathways, resources, and career opportunities open to them. Seeing the college through the students' eyes reminded me why we do what we do."
Those with questions about this program can contact Dr. Holmes at (919) 718-7225 or by email at cholm786@cccc.edu.
Car and Motorcycle Show 2021
Get ready for the college's 4th Annual Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Emergency Services Training Center in Sanford. Open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine!

Student Services "Spirit Week"
CCCC Student Services hosted a "Spirit Week" in August, during the final two weeks leading up to the start of classes.
The goal of the event was to boost morale and provide some levity during one of the busiest and most stressful periods of the school year for Student Services staff. Employees across the department participated in a variety of theme days. We hope you enjoy a few of our team photos!
Guess which day was which:
- Superhero Day
- Wacky Tacky Day
- Tie Die Day

Have You Seen the Bookstore Remodel?
Hello CCCC Community!
The Bookstore staff were hard at work this summer in Lillington in order to revamp and make the Harnett Main Campus bookstore better for you! We came a long way from where we were to where we are today.
Take a moment and come stop by the newly remodeled store to see what has been done. We will still have the essentials at the store, like books for courses taught in Harnett as well as school supplies, charging cables, drinkware, and a selection of CCCC gear. We have added a few things like candy, snacks and medicine to the Lillington lineup in order to serve you better.
Come say hi to the manager of the Lillington store, Jasmine Johnson. She will be happy to show you around. If you cannot make it, please check out these before and after pictures. Hopefully we will see you soon!
College Calendars
Two years ago, CCCC launched a Google calendar called Events Calendar to enable faculty and staff to stay informed about important dates and deadlines.
Based on recent feedback, the college has split this Google calendar into two calendars:
- Academic Calendar lists academic events like the date faculty return, the start of classes, and when grades are due. To add this calendar click: Add Academic Calendar
- The Activities & Events calendar include job fairs sponsored by the college, athletic events, and student activities. To add this calendar click: Add Activities & Events Calendar
If you would like to submit an event for either calendar, please use this form, which is also on the Intranet.
NOTE: If you are already subscribed to the previous Event Calendar, you must unsubscribe and then resubscribe to the new version.
- To unsubscribe from previous Event Calendar, open your email.
- Click on the 3x3 grid icon in the upper right corner and select Calendar.
- On the left side of the page, hover your cursor over Event Calendar under Other calendars. Select the three vertical dots and then Settings on the menu that appears.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom, and under Remove calendar select Unsubscribe.
If you have any questions about how to add the calendars to your Google calendar, please contact Robin Walker at rwalker@cccc.edu.
Library Reserves Program
Now that the fall semester is in full swing, are there any resources you would like to add to the Library Reserves Program?
If your department or any of your faculty have any books or items that you would like to put on reserve for students to use, just let the library staff know. In addition to offering more digital options and helping faculty interested in adopting OER, the library is working to provide wider access to course materials using our existing Reserves program. The library can offer access to these items for in-library use only, or check out periods from three days to the full semester, depending on your preference. Please let Peggy Cotten at pcott515@cccc.edu know if you have any questions, or if you would like to discuss this service in more detail.
If you are interested in putting materials on reserve in the Lee or Harnett Library, complete this Reserve Request Form.CCCC FEATURED

Work by Joanne Kennedy Frazer
Conventional wisdom posits:
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day,
Teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime.
What if he has no access to water
Or the river is too crowded
Or the fish stock non-existent
What if it's a members-only lake
And the dues are too dear
And the vernacular unfamiliar
What if there is a gatekeeper
Who favors a certain skin tone
Who disdains some gender identities
What if channels are dammed
by forces unseen, unknown
drown in such a desert?
