Learning to follow directions and teamwork - even when blindfolded - was one of the fun learning activities at the 'What They Never Told Me About Being a Man' event held March 23 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. From left, Tim Eyring, Central Carolina Community College Admissions Counselor; Trinnette Nichols, CCCC director of Student Services; Dawn Tucker, CCCC dean of College and Career Readiness; Tawan Perry, one of the event motivational speakers, and CCCC student Lee Benjamin offer encouragement to one of the student participants as he attempts to put an unseen puzzle together based only on their instructions. Perry and fellow motivational speaker Kwain Bryant spoke to the attendees about getting past failure, succeeding in high school, preparing for college, and being a man. Central Carolina Community College's Men of Academic Distinction and Excellence (MADE) and Sandhills Community College's Men of Valor and Excellence (MOVE) programs co-sponsored the event. About 90 people attended from CCCC, Sandhills, Sanford Boys and Girls' Club, Job Corps, Lee County High School, Southern Lee High School, SAGE academy, and San-Lee Middle School, as well as members of the community.
