12.13.2017 • College & Community, College General

SANFORD - The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Programs (WIOA), operated by the Triangle South Workforce Board and Central Carolina Community College, offer services to individuals ages 14 and up. Several slots are available for eligible individuals in Chatham, Harnett, Lee, and Sampson counties.

WIOA Title I programs are federally funded by the Department of Labor and provide assistance to individuals with barriers to employment or educational attainment. The purpose of these programs is to increase access to and opportunities for the employment, education, and training services that are needed for individuals to succeed in today's labor market.

For individuals interested in receiving services to train for a new career through WIOA Title I, the following programs are available to eligible applicants.

WIOA Title I Adult Program

This program provides assistance to individuals who are 18 years of age or older and face one or more barriers to finding suitable employment. A priority of service in this program is given to individuals who are recipients of public assistance, those who are underemployed, ex-offenders, single parents, and/or individuals who are basic skills deficient or are disabled.

WIOA Title I Dislocated Worker Program

Individuals who have exhausted their unemployment benefits, or who have been laid off from their jobs through no fault of their own, may be eligible for the WIOA Dislocated Worker Program. This program is offered to individuals who are seeking training services to enhance their current skills or work toward a new career pathway. Targeted populations identified in this program are veterans who have received a separation notice from active military service, displaced homemakers, or self-employed individuals who have suffered due to natural disasters or economic conditions.

WIOA Title I NextGen Program

The Youth and Young Adult Workforce Development NextGen program provides workforce preparation, and connects quality education and employment opportunities to young adults and youth ages 14-24. Young Adult & Youth Workforce Development supports the career pathways of young adults who are currently attending high school or college, are interested in completing high school or college, who want to gain the necessary skills to be successful in their current career field, or for those seeking to embark on a new career path.
