Rebecca Macklin, of Chapel Hill, is Central Carolina Community College's nominee for the Gov. Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award.
SANFORD - Rebecca Macklin, of Chapel Hill, is Central Carolina Community College's nominee for the Gov. Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award sponsored by the N.C. Association of Community College Presidents.
This award, named for the former North Carolina governor who also served as president of the N.C Community College System, is designed to highlight outstanding curriculum student leadership and service.
Macklin is a student in the CCCC Associate in Arts two-year transfer program. A member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, her CCCC experiences have included peer mentor and teacher assistant for the College Transfer Success Class and new student orientation leader.
"As a college student, Rebecca has consistently demonstrated that she is able to handle an intense course load, while producing quality work on her assignments," says CCCC History Instructor Robert T. Barnes III. "Furthermore, she has done so with finesse, skill, and dedication which is uncommon amongst her peers. It is my opinion that these qualities, as well as her general good nature and focus on excellence, make Rebecca an ideal candidate for this leadership opportunity."
"She has gone above and beyond as a student leader at CCCC. Rebecca's outstanding qualities make her a commendable candidate for this year's Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award," said CCCC President Dr. T. Eston Marchant.
Macklin says: "While I love helping others, my role as a leader is not something that I take for granted. As someone others look up to, I feel the pressure to spark creativity and individualism. The ability to motivate and inspire is one of the most important qualities I believe someone can have and I feel extremely honored that others hold me to this high of a standard. ...
"My goal, as a leader, is to inspire others, but I have found that they have inspired me. From these experiences I have been able to grow as an individual and learn. .... My leadership experiences have allowed me to become someone that I am proud of and therefore they have meant the world to me."
