12.08.2016 • College & Community, College General, Continuing Education

SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College is bringing back its Natural Hair Care Specialist course to the Cosmetic Arts lineup for the spring semester.

This non-degree, Continuing Education course now provides 344 hours of training and prepares students to take the North Carolina Natural Hair Care Braiding License Exam to become licensed by the North Carolina Cosmetic Arts Board. This class is the first step in preparing to become a North Carolina licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist.

The Natural Hair Care Specialist class provides a great opportunity for anyone who has a passion for working with people, and learning and practicing natural hairstyling techniques. In the program, students will receive instruction and clinical practice to develop skills in twisting, wrapping, extending, locking, blow-drying, and thermal iron hair styling. In addition, proper sanitation, anatomy, and client consultation will be covered.

"Chemical free, natural hair has been a very fast growing trend because it allows women to embrace their natural beauty," said Nena Dixon, CCCC Workforce Development Director of the Cosmetic Arts program. "This program will allow individuals the opportunity to learn not only how to create natural trendy hair styles, but how to manage and take care of all textures of hair."

The Natural Hair Care Specialist course is designed to be completed in just 18 weeks. Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the CCCC Lee Main Campus in Sanford. Students are encouraged to register early to ensure a seat. Tuition is $185.55 and students are required to purchase a uniform, cosmetology kit, and textbook.
