SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College Foundation held a luncheon on Nov. 9 to honor Sanford Contractors, Inc.

The luncheon was held to recognize that the Central Carolina Community College Engineering Technology Program is being named in honor of Sanford Contractors, Inc. The CCCC Board of Trustees formerly approved the naming at its April meeting.

"We are very thankful for the generosity of Sanford Contractors for its substantial financial gift to the CCCC Foundation to benefit the College's Engineering Technologies Program," said Julian Philpott, Chairman of the CCCC Board of Trustees. "The Trustees were unanimous in their decision to recognize Sanford Contractors for this generous gift by naming CCCC's Engineering Technologies Program for that corporate benefactor. Sanford Contractor's gift will offer a long-term benefit to our students who are pursuing careers that require engineering technologies skills."

Donald T. "Donnie" Oldham, President of Sanford Contractors, notes that CCCC's values mirror those of his company in a lot of ways. "They believe that each student should receive an educational experience steeped in excellence. Each student not only receives an education but they are also taught values that we, at Sanford Contractors, value in our own team members -- integrity, a sense of community, and that if you are willing to put forth an effort, the reward is success," said Oldham.

"We have received and hope to continue to be the recipient of quality team members that have earned their higher education/training from CCCC. We are always looking for talented team members to join our company to fill roles such as engineering, mechanics, equipment operators, surveying techs, administrative, accounting, carpenters, and laborers," said Oldham. "We understand that everyone has different interests and talents and appreciate the varied programs that CCCC offers. By supporting CCCC, we feel that we are also investing in our own future success."

Sanford Contractors is one of North Carolina's most experienced providers of construction services for commercial, residential, industrial, municipal, and state projects.

The company's core principles include:

"We are and have always been a part of the local community," said Oldham. "We work in a large geographic area and contribute to many causes in those areas. But the majority of our management lives in CCCC's home turf. Our management knows the importance of a willing and trained workforce, therefore, we see investing in CCCC as a great investment."

The Sanford Contractors' senior leadership team includes Oldham, President; David Stike, Vice President, Utility Construction Division; Randall Gattis, Vice President, Bridge and Heavy Construction Division; Ian Scott, Vice President, Site Development Division; Mark Oldham, Vice President, Equipment Manager; Thomas M. Haislip, Secretary/Treasurer; and Barbara Angell, Controller/Assistant Secretary.

"It is with great respect that our Trustees have named the CCCC Engineering Technology Program in honor of Sanford Contractors Inc., which has been a generous contributor to the CCCC Foundation," said CCCC President Dr. T. Eston Marchant. "We are appreciative to Donnie and Sanford Contractors Inc. for their support of the college."

The CCCC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with, but independent of, Central Carolina Community College. It receives donations of money and equipment on behalf of CCCC and uses them to promote the educational mission of the college and assist students through scholarships and grants.

"I think technical secondary education is the best investment a community can make in its citizens," said Oldham. "For the citizens that are blessed to have the means to make this investment, they will not be disappointed in the return."
