CCCC finishes fourth in NCMATYC Competition

SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College finished fourth in the NCMATYC (North Carolina Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges) Competition on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Catawba Valley Community College.

Twelve community colleges and 26 teams competed. Student teams from each of the colleges were challenged to complete math challenges individually and in teams.

Catawba Valley was the winner, followed by Wake Tech-Main, Wake Tech-North, and CCCC.

CCCC's Jordan McKay placed fourth overall and received a plaque for his performance in the Morning Calculus Exam.

CCCC's team one of the college's three teams finished second overall and received medals. This team consisted of Jordan McKay, Jacob Pedley, Christa Rhinehart, and Toni Szabo.

Doug Amrhein, Lauren Torga, and Isaac Phillips were winners in the Math Challenge Problems category.

Other members of the CCCC team were Gregory Lamb, Marcella Hernandez-Matute, Alex Loredo, Earl Vaughn-Williams, and Patrick Yarnell.

CCCC Math Instructors Kaan Ozmeral and Charity Turner, have worked with the team as coaches and accompanied the students to the competition.
