SANFORD - Golfers in Lee County have a shining opportunity to help Central Carolina Community College students pay for their education as the CCCC Foundation hosts its Silver Anniversary Lee County Golf Classic Sept. 17.
The tournament takes place at the Sanford Golf Course. In case of rain, the Classic will be held Sept. 24.
"We are looking forward to another successful tournament and hope that it is our biggest one yet," said Jonathan Hockaday, CCCC Foundation golf director. "This is the Foundation's major fall fundraising event, and we anticipate that this 25th anniversary tournament will be bigger than ever."
The Golf Classic has been a community event and major fundraiser for the Foundation's work since 1989. Monies raised help support the educational mission of the college by providing student scholarships as well as funding for the Student Emergency Fund and other needs. In 2013, the Foundation assisted more than 200 students in paying for their college education.
Golf Classic registration forms can be downloaded from the CCCC Foundation's website, www.cccc.edu/foundation/events/golftournament/. They can also be obtained by contacting Hockaday at 919-718-7231 or by email at jhockaday@cccc.edu.
The Golf Classic format consists of two tournaments, both four-person Captain's Choice. Shotgun starts are at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Players will be flighted based on their handicaps. Handicaps will be subject to verification.

A Gold Sponsor, at $600, receives sponsorship recognition and one foursome, while a Platinum Sponsor, at $1,000, includes two foursomes and sponsorship recognition.
Prizes will be awarded to top teams in each flight. There will also be contests for longest drive, closest-to-pin, and putting.
