PITTSBORO - Habla Español?
Do you speak Spanish? Do you want to?
Central Carolina Community College will offer a Spanish Immersion program at its Chatham County Campus starting in the fall semester. It is believed to be the first of its kind at a North Carolina community college.
Get an overview of this innovative program at a full-day session from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in the Mary Hayes Holmes Meeting Room of the Chatham Community Library on the Chatham Campus, 197 N.C. Highway 87, in Pittsboro.
Attendees will have an opportunity to converse in Spanish with other students and the teachers and receive an overview of the immersion experience. A light breakfast and lunch will be served. Participants may earn CEU credit (.5) for the session.

CCCC's Spanish Immersion program has been designed to give an intensive and authentic experience filled with opportunities to learn the language in a practical and applicable manner for use at work and in the community.
The program will include an optional stay with a Spanish-speaking host family, day excursions to enjoy the area while mingling with local Spanish-speaking residents and applying lessons learned, authentic meals, and engaging conversations in class and among residents in various settings.
The college's Continuing Education Department will offer one- and two-week programs starting in the fall, with further details available after Aug. 15.
"We are pleased to offer a groundbreaking program that will benefit professionals, students, and others interested in applying the Spanish language in their work and/or personal experiences," Thompson said.
