SANFORD – Fayetteville State University credit classes will be offered at Central Carolina Community College’s Lee County Campus this summer, thanks to an agreement between the educational institutions.
“CCCC is the leading force for post-secondary education in the Lee County area,” said Dr. Bud Marchant, the college’s president. “This partnership with FSU is one more way we can serve and make available educational opportunities that people might otherwise not be able to afford in these difficult economic times.”
FSU is a member of the University of North Carolina system. Course credits earned in the summer programs will transfer to the other UNC institutions. They will also transfer to most private colleges and universities, as well as to North Carolina Community College System member institutions, including Central Carolina Community College.
During Fayetteville State University’s four-week summer sessions, it will offer a selection of general education courses at the college, taught by CCCC faculty. The first session runs June 2-June 29; the second, July 11-Aug. 5.
Courses to be offered during the first session are General Biology, General Chemistry, World History to 1600, and African-American History. Courses offered during the second session will be General Biology II, General Chemistry II, The United States since 1865, and General Psychology.
“College and university students in CCCC’s service area – particularly those returning home for the summer from their native university – may find these course offerings very attractive,” said Jon Matthews, CCCC Dean of University Transfer and Health Science. “They enable students to continue their education during the summer at a location convenient to them, with quality instructors, and credit transferability.”
Registration is now underway through June 1 for Summer Session I and through July 10 for Summer Session II. Students must apply to and register for the courses through FSU. Tuition and fees are paid directly to the university. Those who are pursuing a degree at another institution who wish to transfer the FSU course credits should apply as “visiting” students.
Costs for a three credit hour class are $110 in tuition, $38 in fees, and $30 in book rental, totaling $474 for in-state residents. Students with out-of-state residency will pay a total of $789 per three credit hour class.
