SANFORD - The Central Carolina Toastmasters Club, recently formed in Sanford, has installed its first slate of officers. Tom Snell, of Sanford, has been selected as the club's first president.
Vice presidents elected are: Education - Stan Wilt, Membership - Tammy Harrington, and Public Relations - Vivian Rosser, all of Sanford.
Other officers are: Secretary Margery Gates, a Distinguished Toastmaster, of Chatham County; and Treasurer Shannon Yarborough, Sergeant-at-Arms Teresa Dew, and Club Sponsor Cynthia Wilt, all of Sanford. Other current members are AlexSandra Lett, Jackie Parker, Pam Gunter, Betsy Wells, Roxie Schneider, Kara Stacy, and Steve Nystrom, all of Sanford.
The club is working to build membership to become chartered by Toastmasters International. Anyone in Lee, Harnett, or Chatham counties (and beyond) interested in improving public speaking and leadership skills is invited to join by calling (919) 499-6009 or (919) 718-7236.
The club meets 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in Classroom 802, Classroom and Fitness Center, at CCCC's Lee County Campus, 1105 Kelly Drive, Sanford. The next meeting is Monday, August 11. There are currently 138 Toastmaster clubs in North Carolina and 11,000 nationally and internationally. Club members enjoy social and educational opportunities with each other.
Central Carolina Toastmasters was started by graduates of Central Carolina Community College's first public speaking class, which was funded by a grant from the Ernest and Ruby McSwain Charitable Foundation. The foundation is also funding the club's chartering fees.
