PITTSBORO – A Geriatric Aide training program takes place at Central Carolina Community College’s Chatham County Campus Sept. 2-Nov. 10.
The program will develop specific skills to address the complex needs of the older adult. The 160-hour program includes 112 hours of class/lab and 48 hours of clinical experience. Topics to be covered include: nutrition, hydration, pressure ulcers, infection control, alternatives to restraints, personal center care, mental health issues, Alzheimer’s disease, challenging behaviors, mobility, role of NAI in pain management, palliative care, non-drug pain management, and stress management.
Classes run 4:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Sept. 2-Nov. 10, at the campus, 764 West St., Pittsboro. Scholarships are available. For more information, contact Cindy S. Smith at (919) 542-6495, ext. 213.
Candidates for the Geriatric Aide program must be on the Nurse Aide I Registry; CPR certified; have a high school diploma, GED or pass an entrance exam; and have a clinical criminal background check. Geriatric Aide candidates will be listed on the NC Nurse Aide Registry.
