College presidential finalists at CCCC

SANFORD - Three of the six finalists for the position of the next president of Central Carolina Community College introduced themselves to the college's faculty, staff, and administrators, and the public at Meet-and-Greet sessions June 3-5 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center.
Current president, Dr. Matt Garrett, retires as of Sept. 1. By then, he will have served 30 years with the North Carolina Community College System. Twenty-one of those have been at CCCC, the last four as president.
Dr. Janice Hoots Gilliam, currently vice president of Student Development Services at Haywood Community College, was at the college June 3. Dr. Susanne Hall Adams, vice president of Student Services and Academic Support at Sandhills Community College, visited June 4. Dr. John R. Slade Jr., vice president/chief academic officer at Central Carolina Community College since 2004, and one of the finalists, was at a Meet-and-Greet session June 5.
Each of the finalists talked to the gathering about their background, their vision for CCCC, and responded to questions from those attending. Each was interviewed later by the board of trustees.
Three more finalists will be at the college next week for Meet-and-Greets; the public is invited to attend. Each takes place 3 p.m.-4:15 p.m. in the Civic Center lobby. Dr. Anne McNutt, recently retired president of the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, S.C., comes on Monday, June 9.
Dr. Linda Thomas-Glover, provost/chief academic officer at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, in Elizabethtown, Ky., will be on campus Tuesday, June 10. On Wednesday, June 11, Dr. Trelawney (Bud) Marchant, vice president for Educational Affairs at Piedmont Technical College, in Greenwood, S.C., will be at CCCC.
Following all the visits and interviews, the trustees will select three finalists, whose names will be submitted for approval to the North Carolina Community College System. From those three, the CCCC trustees expect to make the final choice of the new president in August.
