LILLINGTON, N.C. - The Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) Foundation has received a donation from the Rotary Club of Lillington to sponsor scholarship assistance for students in the college's Applied Technologies programs.

"The community college system has its finger on the needs of the community and is consistent with our focus in Rotary," said Lillington Rotary member Rick Hamlet.

The Rotary Club of Lillington, which currently has 14 members, was founded in 1937. Club members meet the first and third Thursdays at Mi Casitas Restaurant in Lillington.

Club activities are varied, including the Read-a-Book, Get-a-Book program at Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School; recognition of Harnett Teacher of the Year; support for the Buddy Backpack Program of Harnett County; college scholarship awards at Harnett Central and Western Harnett high schools; dictionaries provided to third graders at Lillington-Shawtown and Buies Creek elementary schools; support for Rotaract Club at Campbell University; support Alzheimer's Research Trust; perform or aid environmental projects such as roadside cleanup; and more.

The club is always open to guests and has a variety of speakers. Club members are encouraged to invite guests. Inquiries can also be made via lillingtonrotary@gmail.com.

Club officers are Bill Hobbs, President; Brent Trout, President-Elect; Ronnie Faulkner, Secretary; Karen Kratz, Treasurer; and Rick Hamlet, Sgt.-at-Arms.

"Having had relatives who attended CCCC, I can testify to the school in preparing well those seeking a good vocational education as well as those preparing to go on to get a four-year degree," said Faulkner. "CCCC provides practical training much in demand in our developing region."

Dr. Emily Hare, Executive Director of the CCCC Foundation, said, "We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Lillington for its generous scholarship support for students from Harnett Central and Western Harnett high schools who plan to study in one of the college's Applied Technologies programs. This club has a long history of service in Harnett County - and we are appreciative of their great work within its community and recognizing the value of a CCCC education for Harnett County students."
