CCCC set for second cross country season

SANFORD -- The Central Carolina Community College is fielding its second cross country team this fall.

Richard Briggs, who formerly was an assistant coach at Fayetteville State University, serves as the CCCC cross country coach.

"I am looking for this season to be very productive," said Briggs. "We have a great mix of student athletes, some who have never done cross country before and those who are quite familiar with the sport. The big picture is to help these young people achieve their academic goals, all while being a competitive cross country program."

Members of the CCCC men's cross country team are:

Britney Bell - Cameron, NC

Coach Briggs: "Britney is a tireless worker. Although she has never done organized sports, she's there each day giving it her all. Already we can see her steadily improving."

Colby Day - Hatteras Island, NC

Coach Briggs: "Colby will be our lead man. I am looking for him to raise the bar for the program. Only a freshman, he's capable of setting school records and, along with his teammates, taking the program to new heights."

Eddy Dominguez - Siler City, NC

Coach Briggs: "Eddy, a freshman, is one of our more experienced runners. We are looking forward to what he brings to the team. It will be exciting to help him develop."

Collin Henderson - Sanford, NC

Coach Briggs: "Although he's never been a part of organized sports before, he has the mental approach that everyone should have. I know he is going to give us 100 percent and there is nothing more that I can ask for."

George Jacinto - Siler City, NC

Coach Briggs: "George, a freshman, has experience running cross country. I am looking forward to George helping to push his teammates and making everyone better."

Ramon Jimenez - Smithfield, NC

Coach Briggs: "Ramon has bought into the program in a big way. Only a freshman, he travels every day from Smithfield to the Lee Main Campus. He has and will be a big contributor."

Nathalia Lima - Cameron, NC

Coach Briggs: "Talk about someone with heart and courage. Nathalia is in her second year at CCCC. Married with two young children and never having done a sport before, she decided to do cross country. I am delighted for her to be a part of our journey."

Miranda Manfredi - Camden, GA

Coach Briggs: "Miranda is a sprinter, saw that we did not have a track team, and decided to give cross country a try. After meeting with her, you could see that she has a never give-up attitude."

Nayelly Martinez - Sanford, NC

Coach Briggs: "She is studying to be an athletic trainer and has been with the team in that capacity. Recently, we talked about running her first 5k. She had an event she was training for. I basically said, 'Why not join the team and run your first 5k with us.' She agreed."

Tyree Minor - Smithfield, NC

Coach Briggs: "Ty is very inspirational. He has never done cross country, only track and field and nothing over 300 meters. He has come to the program with great energy -- always something positive to say."

Madilynn Richardson - Idaho

Coach Briggs: "Madilynn just recently joined the team. Just a few days of practice and you can see her grit and determination."

Anna Trotter - Pittsboro, NC

Coach Briggs: "The day Anna said she wanted to be part of the cross country team was very exciting. This young lady brings experience, determination, and the love of running with her. She will do big things while she is here at CCCC."

The remaining schedule:

Sept. 20 - Trojan Cross Country Invite, Virginia State University, Petersburg, Va.; Oct. 5 - Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic, Hagan Stone State Park, Pleasant Garden; Oct. 11 - 2019 Livingstone Cross Country Invitational, Salisbury Community Park, Salisbury; Oct. 19 - NJCAA Region X Championship, Spartanburg, S.C.; Nov. 9 - NJCAA Championships, Westfield, Mass.
