Part-Time Cougar Champion of the Month!

September Cougar Champion: Angie Fleshman

Angie Fleshman

Administrative Assistant, Upward Bound Program

How long have you worked for CCCC?
I began working for CCCC as a bus driver in 2012. Working full-time as a Kindergarten Teacher Assistant (TA) for Harnett County schools, I simultaneously started working for Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) as a bus driver with Upward Bound, part of the TRiO Program.

What brought you to CCCC?
Initially as mentioned above, since being a TA for Harnett County Schools also comes with the CDL “Bus Driving” requirement, I was contracted out by Harnett County Schools to drive an activity bus for the Upward Bound program at CCCC. I accepted this additional job because it seemed to be a natural extension for my enjoyment assisting mentorship and growth for school aged children. I also drove as needed for the college for other programs. In September 2023, I transitioned from full-time TA to part-time Administrative Assistant for the Upward Bound Program at CCCC Lee Main Campus as well as drove for CCCC as needed.

Describe what you do for CCCC.
I assist our leadership and staff in data entry, file management and organization of student records, communications to students and parents-guardians, planning and coordination of on and off site visits and activities, receiving supplies, coordination of technology support and accountability of equipment, as well as transportation planning and execution. I am the face and voice that welcomes you as you enter the Guided Studies Building. Upward Bound is an amazing program that I am passionate about. My co-workers make coming to work enjoyable and we collaborate well. We are making a difference in our students' educational goals. Students get hands-on learning and new experiences. Upward Bound offers opportunities allowing students to travel out of the state, fly on an airplane or take a tour bus. I enjoy touring local colleges and engaging with the students on trips and events.

What is your work motto?
Be productive and stay busy.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
When a former student sees me and comes to say hi and lets me know how they are doing. This accomplishment is the real positive impact received firsthand. It warms my heart being recognized by a student and seeing them in everyday life where they know who I am and thank me for helping them succeed.

Who inspires you?
My husband is my greatest fan. There isn't anything I can't do with him supporting me the entire way.

Where were you born?
Boise, ID.

Where do you live now?
I now live in Cameron, but will soon be moving to Bunnlevel after completion of our new home build.

Educational credentials?
I have an associate degree in Early Education and a certificate of completion in Business.

Tell us about your family!
I have two children, five bonus children, one bonus grandchild, two guinea pigs and a dog.

What are some of your hobbies or other interests outside of CCCC?
I enjoy spending time with my grown-up children. I enjoy doing yard work. I am looking forward to traveling with my husband soon.

Who is one of your favorite fictional characters and why (from a favorite book, tv show, movie, etc.)?
I enjoy pretty much all of the Marvel movies. I grew up watching the cartoons and reading the comics.

What is your favorite meal?
I am from Idaho, so I have to say meat and potatoes! My 24 years here in N.C., however, I have grown to love BBQ and biscuits and gravy.
