Full-Time Cougar Champion of the Month!
September Cougar Champion: Summerlin Webb
Summerlin Webb
Lead English Instructor
How long have you worked for CCCC?
This is year fifteen!
What brought you to CCCC?
A 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt with some power-steering problems. But seriously, I was working nine part-time jobs after graduate school (this is not an exaggeration) and seeking a full-time community college teaching job, and one of my supervisors told me about CCCC. I saw there was a literary magazine (shoutout to Red Clay Review!), applied, interviewed, and here we are, two cars later.
Describe what you do for CCCC.
I teach English and humanities courses, help with scheduling classes, assist adjuncts, advise students, and play academic whack-a-mole.
Where did you grow up?
Northern tip of Sampson County where it’s almost Cumberland and almost Harnett.
Where do you live now?
Raleigh
Educational credentials?
B.A. and M.A. in English from NC State
Tell us about your family!
My husband, Buck, is a technical director. My daughter, Edna, is in second grade. My father is a retired farmer (though still doing plenty!), and my mother has retired from both teaching school and working for Belk.
What are some of your hobbies or other interests outside of CCCC?
I love to play tennis, cook, bake, and watch college sports. I’m trying to get back into sewing, reading, and writing, which I haven’t had much time for in the last few years. Since taking my first two trips outside the country this past year, I’m also working on learning some other languages.
Who is one of your favorite fictional characters and why?
I love Julia Sugarbaker from Designing Women. I value intelligence and integrity, and in addition to those traits, she knows how to deliver a proper and needed vocal adjustment and can spot mendacity from another zip code.
What is your favorite meal?
I love all cultures’ intersections of carbs, tomatoes, and cheese, and I love a good salad bar. With a cup of coffee, of course.
Anything else you'd like to share with the CCCC family?
Thanks for being awesome and putting up with my clutter and puns. I’m lucky to work with a lot of good folks in and around my department, and I appreciate all the support here.
Part-Time Cougar Champion of the Month!
September Cougar Champion: Audrey Moore
Audrey Moore
Administrative Assistant
How long have you worked for CCCC?
I have worked for CCCC for 15 years and 10 months.
What brought you to CCCC?
I returned to college to get a new career after the company I was working for moved to Wisconsin. I was attending class and keeping my eye open for employment also.
Describe what you do for CCCC.
I am the Administrative Assistant for the Industry Services Training Center. I provide the material that is needed for the instructors who supply education to the employees.
Where were you born?
I was born and raised in Sanford.
Where do you live now?
I am still a resident of Sanford, living in the Jonesboro area.
Educational credentials?
I have an Associate in Applied Science in Office Administration, Medical Assistance, Office Management, Business Administration, and Human Resources.
Tell us about your family!
My parents Martha McLeod, (deceased), John Hill (deceased), stepfather (deceased). My husband Bosie Moore (deceased). I have one daughter Yolanda Crutchfield, two grandchildren, Lakeisha and James Crutchfield, and one great-grandson Jayden Crutchfield. I have two four-legged animals, Cola Mae Moore and Tinklebell Crutchfield.
What are some of your hobbies or other interests outside of CCCC?
I really love to read, sew, plant flowers, cook, and play games on the phone or computer. We often play board games on family day.
What is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal would be a T-bone steak, baked potatoes, garden salad and coconut pie.
Anything else you'd like to share with the CCCC family?
I am very appreciative for the opportunity to be a member of the CCCC family. I always wanted to return the opportunity to help someone else starting a new career at the college. Thank you again for nominating me for the part-time Employee of the Month of September.
WOW! WHAT A TEAM!
YouthBuild Award Ceremony

Annual Employee Halloween and Pumpkin Carving Contest
Please join the Foundation on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. for the Annual CCCC Employee Costume/Pumpkin Carving Contest!
The event will be held in the courtyard next to the copy center on the Lee Main Campus. For more details on each contest, please review the information listed below. Everyone should sign up on our Registration Form this year if you plan to participate.
Costume Contest
We have five categories you can compete in this year:
- Scariest
- Funniest
- Cutest
- Best Group
- Best Overall
Please let the Foundation know if you want intro music played during your presentation, and we can make that happen.
Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest
Please bring your completed pumpkin at 9:45 a.m. the day of the event or send it via courier if you wish to compete from another campus. If you send it via courier, please send it to the Foundation Office the day before the event.
We will be awarding the first and second place winners for this contest.
If you are not participating in either contest, we would like you to come and watch the event and help us pick our winners. We will also have refreshments and treats for everyone who comes. We hope to see you all there. If you have any further questions, please let us know.
Trunk-or-Treat Oct. 30!
Trunk-or-Treat is just around the corner. For this year’s event, the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa are teaming up to bring fun to all three main campuses!
We need your help in making this event a success! We encourage every department, office, and group to participate by signing up for a spot. There will be a student group and non-student group competition for the best-decorated trunk/space.
The events will be held simultaneously across all three campuses from 4:30-6 p.m. Offices, departments, clubs, organizations, and student groups are welcome to reserve a spot to hand out treats or host a small activity for the event. Event set-up will begin at 3 p.m. until the start of the event at 4:30 p.m. Clean-up will begin promptly at 6 p.m. until finished.
All groups must be approved by the event organizers and abide by the Event Guidelines and Policies.
The event is open to all CCCC students, staff, faculty, and their families. However, participation from faculty, staff, and student groups is critical to the success of the event. Please encourage your students and your departments/offices to sign-up for the event!
Sign-up no later than Monday, Oct. 23.
In addition to reserving a space, individuals interested in contributing to the event can choose to volunteer for setup, assisting SGA and PTK, or for cleanup. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please reach out to one of the event organizers, B.J. Thompson, Fred Staton, Jr., or Kelly Dorman.
National Advising Day
CCCC is the first college in the WORLD to celebrate this day! Advising is critical to help students connect to resources, develop individual academic plans, and reach their goals. We believe quality advising is one of the most important factors in students being successful in college.
Celebrations were held from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 3 on the Lee Main Campus, Oct. 4 on the Chatham Main Campus, and Oct. 5 on the Harnett Main Campus. Tables were set up on each campus, at which students could win prizes, get candy and learn about advising.

The Play's the Thing
In Shakespeare's Hamlet, Hamlet quips, "The play's the thing!" For 175 CCCC students from disciplines and programs as varied as creative writing, drama, early childhood education, English, history, music, sociology, YouthBuild, and TRIO Student Support Services, the play was, indeed, the thing!
CCCC students and their faculty and staff enjoyed a professional production of Annie: The Musical at Temple Theatre on Sept. 21. In addition to the Depression-era show, members of the cast, crew, and creative team conducted a Q&A with students about artistic and technical aspects of the production from its political and economic allusions to how set pieces are constructed and Sandy the dog trained for the stage.
One number in the show is "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile." Select TRIO students shown in this picture of the event are definitely all smiles.
HFS Speaker
Emma Gentry Landry—Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium Guest Experience Coordinator—visited with Central Carolina Community College Health and Fitness Science (HFS) students as well as other classes to discuss all things NFL, Miami Dolphins, concerts, and Formula One racing from a game-day coordination and event planning standpoint. She is a former student-athlete coached by CCCC HFS Department Chair Dr. Carl Bryan. She is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Pregnant Volunteers Needed
Volunteers needed! If you are between 22- and 32-weeks along in a pregnancy, the Medical Sonography students at CCCC’s Keller Health Sciences building would like your help.
Medical Sonography is in need of volunteers so that students can develop their skills in performing ultrasounds. Participants may be able to receive pictures. Proof of having had an 18-week complete anatomy ultrasound is required.
Services are offered each Wednesday at 4 p.m. through Nov. 22. Details are available at (919) 718-7489.
National Manufacturing Day Event
The first Friday of October is the annual date set to celebrate manufacturing and its impact with the recognition of National Manufacturing Day, which provides an opportunity to inspire the next generation of manufacturers, positively shift perceptions about the industry, and build the foundation for the manufacturing workforce of the future.
CCCC hosted its Manufacturing Day event on Oct. 6th at the E. Eugene Moore Manufacturing & Biotech Solutions Center where regional companies showcased the diverse career opportunities in manufacturing. The event strives to raise awareness and excitement around manufacturing careers for students, educators, parents, influencers, and community leaders.
With more than 800 attendees - including over 500 students from schools in four counties, this was an ideal chance to show everyone how manufacturing works and what kind of career opportunities are available.
Creative Cake Decorating at Your Fingertips
This CCCC Professional Development class was for faculty and staff. They were able to discover the sweet world of creative cake decorating with the Culinary Arts staff, where they learned the art of crafting stunning cakes that taste as good as they look.
Angel Tree
It's that time of year again for CCCC's annual Angel Tree program!
The Angel Tree program provides toys, clothes, and shoes to children of current curriculum CCCC students in need during the holiday season.
Current CCCC students, faculty, and staff may adopt an Angel from the Angel Tree to provide clothes, shoes, and toys. Please consider signing up as an Angel Adopter to sponsor a student in need.
Adoptions open on Nov. 6 and run until Nov. 21. If you have any questions or need assistance with the adoption process, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at angeltree@cccc.edu.
American Physical Therapy Association NC Chapter Award
Congratulations to CCCC's Jason Harloff (left) and Tiffany Needham (right), who have received awards from the American Physical Therapy Association NC Chapter.
Harloff, CCCC's Physical Therapist Assistant Clinical Education Coordinator, was named the Physical Therapist of the Year. Needham, CCCC's Physical Therapist Assistant Department Chair, was named Physical Therapist Assistant of the Year.

Virtual Film Screening: The Cancer Journals Revisited
Dates: Oct. 17-24
Join us in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month for The Cancer Journals Revisited. The Cancer Journals Revisited is prompted by the question of what it means to re-visit and re-vision poet Audre Lorde’s classic 1980 memoir of her breast cancer experience today. At the invitation of filmmaker Lana Lin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, 27 writers, artists, activists, health care advocates, and current and former patients recite Lorde’s manifesto aloud on camera, collectively dramatizing it and producing an oration for the screen. The film is both a critical commentary and a poetic reflection upon the precarious conditions of survival within the intimate and politicized public sphere of illness.
Author Event: Edward Di Gangi
Dates: Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
In recognition of National Adoption Month, Chatham Community Library will host Hillsborough author Edward Di Gangi as he discusses his memoir, The Gift Best Given. A story of adoption, search, discovery, and reunion, The Gift Best Given is set against the glamorous ice skating spectaculars of the 1940s and details the author's late adulthood search for the identity of the woman who placed him for adoption at the time of his birth and the unexpected discoveries he made during the course of his journey. His presentation will be supplemented by period photographs.
The Chatham Community Library will be closed Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

COUGAR PETS
Cougar Pets
Cougar Pets is a local animal rescue group housed on the Lee Main Campus. As part of the Veterinary Medical Technology program, our animals help teach veterinary technician students essential skills that will help future animals. All of the animals are rescued from shelters, and all are adoptable.
Meet Oregano
My name is Oregano. Are you looking for a sweet household companion? If so, I will fit right in! I am a very social cat who doesn't seem to have many cares. I enjoy people but I prefer to be the queen when it comes to other cats.
Meet Burton
My name is Burton. I am a super sweet fun-loving pup who LOVES adventures! I am looking for an ideal hiking companion who wants to feast on s'mores afterwards (no chocolate of course).
See all of the adoptions, or rather Happy Tails of Cougar Pets.
All adoptable dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines. They have regular dental cleanings, blood work, and physical exams. We pride ourselves on the care that our cats and dogs receive during their stay. Contact www.cougarpets.org for more information on our colony dogs and available cats.
